California Mining-Rights Brief — October 5, 2026
No new recreational-prospecting law, Mining Law amendment, or statewide suction-dredging change was finalized this week. Three BLM actions are relevant:
Northern California fire restrictions eased: Effective October 1, the Redding Field Office lifted seasonal restrictions on BLM land in Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Siskiyou and Trinity counties. Campfires are again permitted with a valid California Campfire Permit unless locally posted otherwise. The statewide fire-prevention order remains active. Share with CA Gold Diggers, especially members planning northern outings. Bureau of Land Management
Oil-and-gas lease sale confirmed: BLM scheduled a December 1 auction involving 43 parcels—about 35,000 acres—in Kern, Kings, San Luis Obispo and Fresno counties. A public-protest period runs through November 2. Leasing does not immediately close land or authorize drilling; individual projects require permits and environmental review. Prospectors using these parcels should examine the maps for possible future access conflicts. Bureau of Land Management
Lassen County prescribed burns: BLM began planning fall burning on public lands as early as October 1. This is not a mining restriction, but smoke, temporary road controls and short-term area closures may affect outings. Check local conditions before traveling.
