California Mining-Rights Brief — October 12, 2026
No new prospecting law, Mining Law amendment, court ruling, or statewide dredging-policy change was finalized this week.
New access caution: prescribed burns
Starting as early as October 12, BLM and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service may conduct prescribed burns throughout Shasta, Tehama, Trinity and Butte counties. Operations may continue through fall and winter.
Practical impact: Prospecting remains lawful, but individual locations may experience smoke, reduced visibility, temporary traffic controls or short-term access restrictions. Check active-burn information before visiting BLM land in these counties. Bureau of Land Management
