Must Do! Experience!!
Roaring Camp was once a camp for Forty Niners, but since it was so inaccessible, most of the gold still remains. Visitors can see our operating gold mine and can mine their own gold by panning, sluicing, metal detecting, and dry washing.
In the Mokelumne Canyon, the three forks of the Mokelumne River come together. It is a river unsurpassed in natural beauty. The water is so clear that one can watch the tadpoles and fish swim. There are waterfalls and natural rock formations forty feet high.
There is also a quiet, secluded “swimming hole” with rocks of varying sizes, ideal for diving by those who dare! Be sure to bring your fishing gear. The fishing here is excellent!
Saturday Night Cookout
Our Saturday Night Cookout Dinner is a five hour trip into the canyon, leaving at 5:00 P.M. and returning at 10:00 P.M. After the guide shows you the Museum, Camp and our Placer Gold mine operation, he will show you how to pan for gold. (You keep the nuggets!)
The dinner is a hearty New York Steak BBQ. Just wait until you taste the awesome fried bread! Cost is $65.00 per person for non-campers, or FREE for those who are staying in camp.

Melanie has been going here for the last 3-4 years in August. It is so worth the $65 dinner experience! Great for a date, or take the family. Must Do!! You event get to pan a little, enjoy the river ambience, and live music. It is a tradition to do yearly.
Comment response East Bay Prospectors:
Roaring Camp is something special in the way of family recreation. It is an old Gold Mining camp on the Mokuumne River. Check it out!
